Netflix and YouTube 4k issues

by canikony

I just got my Mi Box today from Walmart and I'm a little confused at what's going on.

Netflix does not show any content in 4k UHD. That grey box doesn't appear next to any title and when I watch shows that I know are in 4k, the video is squished with black vertical bars running down the left and right sides.

With Youtube, 4k content is also squished vertically.

I have updated the software for both the apps and the box and made sure the proper resolution is selected. Also tried rebooting...

Any ideas?

Edit:

TV is an LG E6p OLED.

I do subscribe to the UHD Netflix.

4k worked fine when I had my FTV

Using the cable that came with mi box.

In the Netflix case, are you paying the extra bucks per month for UHD content?

Mine did the same thing. I did the update and was stuck at HD resolutions. Settings were right, cables all gave me 4k from Shield and Roku 4 but Mi Box had no 4K.

I reset my Mi Box, same result. Reset it again and I'm back in business.

Is the HDMI cable for HDMI 2? And the settings on your TV are right I suppose?

What tv do you have? What are your cables rated for?

I can confirm I have the same issues as well.

Playing on a Sony 4K TV with the HDMI cable that came in box.

Colors are noticeably washed out.

4K videos on YouTube have frame drops and micro stuttering.

Netflix only plays in HD, I have 4K subscription.

I tried 4K resolution both in 30hz and 60hz.

For me I can get 4k 30 to work in youtube but on videos that have 4k 60, the mi box only shows an option of a 1080p 60fps max.

For example, this is a 4k 60 video when watching In chrome: https://youtu.be/5lW9SFhh9Dk

But when watching on mi box youtube I don't see any 4k option avaialble: http://imgur.com/gtoipxf

BUT, when watching a 4k 30fps video, that seems to work for me

I just updated my Netflix sub to UHD last night and the UHD flags didn't show up until this afternoon. Also I had to make sure 4k60hz was selected in the Mi Box settings.

Anyone else having a problem with the aspect ratio. I have the box set to 4k, but when it plays 1080p Netflix there are black bars on the left and right. Is the Mi Box using 4k (4,096 x 2,160) and not 4k UHD (3,840 x 2,160)? UHD is supposed to be 16:9, so there shouldn't be any aspect ratio problems.
