I am now convinced that some Mi Box units are defective

by ego-sum-deus

I own 2 Mi Boxes. MiBox1 works great; no problems with playback of video or anything. MiBox2 will not play anything on Netflix. I tried hooking up both boxes to the same TV and MiBox1 works, MiBox2 doesn't. On MiBox2, Netflix will play video for a couple of seconds, then throw up a message saying that it can't play the video.

Is anyone else experiencing this? If so, any fixes?

Sounds like an HDCP authentication error. Are both boxes running the exact same Android/App version?

You can easily test the cable etc because you have a working setup. If you have isolated it to the box then return the box as defective.

Some of every product on the market has defective examples.

The first Mi Box I picked up at Walmart on launch day was defective -- no video. I tried 3 different HDMI cables, 3 different TVs, 3 different power outlets (all known good). I knew it was powered-on because of the light emitted from the digital audio port, but just no picture. The replacement I got works properly.

I think they were trying to price low enough to take share away form Roku, Fire TV, and even Chromecast, and cut corners.

I have the same issue. Netflix throws up an "We're having trouble playing this title right now. Please try again later or select a different title." error every couple of minutes.

I have reset, uninstalled and reinstalled Netflix app, reset wifi router, changed WiFi network, tried multiple HDMI cables, rebooted. Nothing helps. Netflix simply won't play consistently. I've checked the network speed on the app (40Mbps, and all servers available). I've checked that netflix works on my tablet, and on my Macbook with no issues.

I have a horrible feeling that the unit I have is a dud... which is annoying as I'm not currently in the US, so can't simply exchange it.

i have had this same issue with firesticks as well, i found that 1 out of every 20 or so will just not play netflix properly no matter what i do. i hear audio but no picture. I figure every "box" has the same kind of problem.
