Plex playback smoother when casting

by helal94

I've just realised that Plex playback seems smoother when I cast it from my iPhone than when I use the android tv app. It seems as though it is playing at 60fps when casting whereas on the android tv app it's 24fps. Has anyone else noticed this?

This is a setting in Plex that you can change, to tell it not to change the TV framerate. I'm not sure why they do this (something about synchronization? nfi)

Yeah, it's gross. Some weird motion smoothing crap. I noticed it when my wife couldn't find the remote so just cast a movie from her phone instead. If it can be shown on a cinema screen at 24fps for paying movie goers I'm fine with it on my TV.

24 fps is most likely native to the movie you're watching. It could be encoded for 24 fps playback which most movies in the theaters are.

So 60 fps doesn't really help you much when you're playing a 24 fps source. It's like having a 60 Mhz monitor and getting 100 fps in a game. You won't see much difference past 60 fps because of the monitor.
