So the Mi Box is buggy at best. So first thing. Does anyone know who is in charge of updating the software. Google or Xiaomi?
And the biggest only reason to to keep this box is the promise of DTS-HD and True HD bitstreaming. Has anyone seen any type of confirmation that this is in the future?
Really this thing is just a glorified Chromecast with an interface for me. I got 3 of those plus a Roku.
It's not a nexus or a pixel or a GED, Xiaomi will be handling updates.
Buggy at best? Come on man. I love it! It's a great chromecast replacement and better as kodi works flawlessly for me. You want a 200 device? Get a shield. If you want to stream Netflix and kodi get a mi box. It's been a great device for me, I have one on both my TVs.
I just got the MiBox today, it's running faster than the Nexus Player and works great with my hd home run prime. Audio searching is faster, the remote is better. However 4k resolution was a little laggy with love channels, I turned it to 1080p since barely any content is 4k and it doubled the speed with no audio sync issues. I tested 4k video prior in Netflix and YouTube and it was perfect. HDMI Sec is working great, just doesn't auto turn on without the MiMote, however you can set it to stay on, so not an issue with me. Plex is faster and better quality than Nexus Player.
To me it's a an updated nexus player. It's not the end all be all. You should not expect that from a $69 device. This sub is really smug sometimes.
I have had no issues at all. This thing has been running hd homerun, hulu, netflix and plex for me just fine. Updates will not be coming from google.
Yup, this is the best Chromecast replacement. A lot of potential that can be addressed via updates.
I have been using it for a week. Has turned into a great spmc box, tailored to my every need. It would be nice if there was some developments on it, as it seems it is not locked down well.
For me Chromecast is a bit buggy. When trying to start something or getting out of it it hangs up sometimes.
Can anyone comment about bitstreaming? Does anyone know or think this is in the future of the Mi Box?
Keep in mind refurb fire Tvs are 79.99 for gen 1 and 89.99 for gen 2.
Dunno, I've had it for a week now and have had no issues. Granted I replaced my RPi2/Kodi setup with this but I think it's been fairly solid so far for $70. Been using Kodi, Plex & Netflix with no issues. Guess only time will tell though since I don't watch TV every night.
