Mibox issues - TV turns on randomly + chromecast doesn't work

by eddielement

Anybody else having these issues?

Issue 1: I turn the TV off and then a few minutes later the mi box will turn it back on if I haven't manually suspended it. Does this mean I have to suspend the mi box and then turn off the TV every time instead of just turning off the TV?

Issue 2: Casting from my phone will not work unless I go to the mi box and press the power on button. Shouldn't it work while mi box is suspended? A chromecast certainly does...

I'm dealing with issue #2 myself. I believe that issue is related to HDMI-CEC settings. Your issue #1 may be as well.

I think the mi box is not discoverable for casting when suspended(which sucks).

HDMI-CEC is what allows the mi box, chromecasts, playstations, and lots of other devices to control your TV to turn it on and change inputs but since the mi box also allows you to control it with your regular TV remote (like a lot of HDMI-CEC devices), everytime I turn my TV off I put the box in suspend. If I remove the HDMI-CEC capability for the device in my TV's settings then the box will not turn on my TV or change the input when I cast to it. So either way I'm annoyed.

I just got my box last night and will do more fiddling with settings today and let you know if I find a mix of settings that work.

EDIT: I ended up just disabling hdmi-cec control to the box from my TV settings. This way the box is always on and ready in daydream mode to cast to. I just have to turn my TV on and off with my original TV remote and then I can switch to the mi box remote. Don't like needing 2 remotes but its worth the small inconvenience. I really love this box. The live channels app with pluto.tv is awesome. When 7.0 drops for this thing I'll probably get a USB tuner and try watching my OTA stuff through the mi box and be forever in the Android TV interface.

Same issue with the TV turning on. It's really annoying. Haven't found a work around yet.

I sent away for a usb Ethernet adapter hopefully it will help and maybe the Google/Xiaomi/Samsung folks will come up with a fix. Turning off the HDMI-cec (Samsung Anynet+ on mine) won't work for me because it means the soundbar and subwoofer stay on always. Plus I like the tv remote as a backup for the Xiaomi remote. Chromecasts plugged into the wall with the Ethernet adapter work awesome. I don't know why the Android TV boxes lose this functionality. It's mind boggling.

Instead of "Chromecast built-in" it should say, "Chromecast kind-of-there." I'm not confident that will effective customer support from any of the companies involved. Anyone have ideas?
