New MiBox, Netflix doesn't work.

by igotthisone

I just got the MiBox in the mail today and I'm trying to set it up. Netflix won't open at all, I just get the error code ui-800-3 no matter what I do. I've tried their suggestion of unplugging the box. I've done a system update. I've uninstalled and reinstalled Netflix. Any ideas? Great first impression...

I had a similar problem that Hulu from the playstore would not work. I fixed the issue by sideloading the app from an apk. Works great.

I had a similar problem. I have 3 mi boxes and on one of them, Netflix wouldn't play at all (can't remember the error, but something similar to what you posted). I tried reinstalling everything and even factory resetting and nothing fixed it....the video played for like 2 seconds and then just gave an error (the error mentioned something about not being able to verify the account/location properly). I ended up returning it and the new one worked fine.

I will say that I bought one from Walmart and that one had no issues. The 2 other ones came directly from Xiaomi and both of those had problems. With one, Netflix was giving an error mentioned above, and the other one gave an error every time I opened Sling. I returned the Netflix problem one to Walmart and the exchanged one worked fine. With the Sling problem one, I turned off location permissions and it works now. I'm wondering if there's something about some units that are reporting their location inaccurately, causing these errors.

If anyone is interested, here's an update on my issue.

Walmart can't replace the box because they have none in stock and the representative told me they were not expecting more any time soon. They told me to contact Xiaomi.

Xiaomi support took over an hour of troubleshooting and said they could not find a solution. They said to exchange the box with Walmart...well that's not an option. Then they told me to contact Netflix.

Netflix support was also over an hour on the phone. They escalated it. I sent a screenshot of the device page and a bunch of other stuff to them. They had never heard of this before and had no solution. They told me to contact Xiaomi.

So it looks like my options are:

  1. Keep it, but not be able to use Netflix. Cross my fingers for a future update/fix

  2. Return it for a refund, but not be able to get a new one.

I don't think I'll ever be buying anything from Xiaomi again.

Can you cast Netflix to it, at least?

ui-800-3 is a code I get on numerous devices, it isn't limited to an androidtv. The only way to fix sometimes is to uninstall and reinstall and hope it works. Netflix is of no help, all of their trouble shooting is the same.

You can try to factory reset the box to see whether the problem solved or not

deftrance

I had this exact same issue and I went through the same steps you did. I was able to resolve it this morning by performing a Factory Reset AFTER the System Update was done. After reconfiguring the box, Netflix is working great!

Was anyone ever able to solve the issue without using the sideloaded (non-tv version) of the APK? Or without returning (not an option for me unfortunately)

Fdorr

Same problem here, netflix do not work and i cannot sideload an alternative netflix apk.

I have the same issue with my MiBox I got from gearbest. Here in germany they aren't selled anywhere but I wanted this thing, so I imported it.

I also had no software update until now.

I just bought an Element 4K smart tv with the Netflix app. I can stream 4K shows without any issues consistently with it wirelessly. The same wireless network the Mi Box is on. Bottom Line, this isn't a Netflix or network issue, it's a Mi Box issue. Little confidence they will update their firmware and software to fix it. Advice to all...take yours back or do not buy! It's a worthless POS.

Having similar issues. There was a firmware update this morning (Jan 10, 2017) that read "Update Contains DRM patch with Netflix and CTS security patch." I applied it and I still can't play Netflix videos beyond 30 seconds. Actually, after I did a full data wipe, Netflix fails almost immediately after I hit play.

What I've tried.

  • Upgraded firmware to TV today.
  • Updated MiBox firmware with "Netflix" patch
  • Reinstalled Netflix app a few times.
  • Wiped all data from MiBox.

same issue, netflix plays a movie for 10 sec and error msg. Did a exchange at walmart since i just got it 2 days ago. Now netflix works. I say just go exchange it. I did all the resets and updates before and nothing worked.

theKarcus

Just updated my Mibox today and Netflix is now working.

In the About section, it says I'm on Android 6.0.1

I had tried everything (reset, resolution, playback settings) and nothing. Buy then I eventually got it working! I did two things at the same time, so I'm not sure what fixed it:

  • settings > developer options > general > HDMI optimization > set to Best Framerate
  • installed the mobile version of Netflix all The funny thing is that even after uninstalling it and put back the hdmi optimization setting Netflix is still working.

problem fixed after software updating mibox
