The new mi box basically runs the same hardware (double the ram) and has a proper operating system on it, designed for use with a TV.
Get the Mi Box with Android TV .
It's not Android TV. If it's 4K you want, get a Mi Box or Nvidia Shield.
Please don't buy any of those cheap crap boxes. They don't have Android TV, so you're going to be dealing with someone trying to shoehorn a tablet OS into something usable on a TV and failing miserably.
If you want something inexpensive and usable, get a MiBox. Don't get the Chinese version, though; get the version that's sold in the US.
These boxes are fine for most things, but you are going to want to get a mouse and keyboard as they run mobile android, not TV. You will also more than likely need to use a new launcher, and check freaktab if there are any issues with the rom not playing nicely. Most of these cheap android boxes have shit firmwares and are FUN to play with, but unless you look at it as a hobby, it's not something you want if you are completely clueless, which honestly, it sounds like you are. I myself run chinese boxes, because I know what I am doing, and have flashed custom firmwares to them and all sorts of fun stuff.
Get a shield or a Mi, it will make your experience a lot better.
That's not an android tv.
