by sam143569

Apple tv and Lg tv's smart app yield same picture quality but nvidia shield tv looks washed out...

Specially pay attention to skin tones... I verified all are tested in same picture settings... I have truned on ultrahd setting for hdr which is working fine.

Even truehd via spmc and kodi not working n I verified all settings. While 50 bucks chinese android tv is passing truehd just fine. Seems like there was a bug on packaging IEC packets which is affecting small percentage of sound bar/avr... Support team is not able to resolve it...

Seems like I am going to sell this on ebay now...such a shame for this powerful hardware...

You do realize tvs need to be calibrated differently for every different device you plug in right?

So NVIDIA has this awesome idea that TVs support only the limited RGB range. They set all their GPUs and the Shield TV to the limited RGB space by default, if connected through HDMI.

I only recently discovered that myself and was pretty steamed since I game on my TV from my PC and have an NVIDIA GPU, and own the shield for media streaming. So essentially I was consuming all my media with a significantly reduced color depth and thus contrast because NVIDIA just assumes that all TVs need that.

So what I suggest is, check whether in the HDMI settings of the Shield the RGB range is set to full. Because if it is set to limited but your TV expects the normal range, colors will appear washed out and kind of muddy.

On the other hand, if your TV expects the limited signal but receives the full one, the details in very dark and very bright scenes will be lost.

Just try it.

What TV model? Did you try swapping HDMI ports?

Make sure your calibration profile is selected for that device. Each of my HDMI ports can have its own calibration.
