Open apps on android tv (Nvidia Shield or Sony Android TV) with Logitech Harmony

by Cbuckles17

Hey all,

I've been doing some web scavenging and haven't had much luck about this topic. So thought I should post to see if I can get an answer (or something along those lines).

But is there a way to create "custom" commands to tell logitech harmony to open a specific application on android tv? I know you could always program the harmony activity to turn the tv on -> scroll down to the app -> then click select and open it. But this can be laggy some times.

Just random thoughts, if there is not a way to create "custom" commands on Logitech's side, could it be achieved some how with IFTTT or Tasker?

thanks!

Can Harmony send HTTP POST command?

On Sony TVs, you can send this to list installed apps. And then launch an app (e.g Netflix) like this

Also interested in this functionality, especially with Amazon Echo compatibility. I'd love to instantly load up Netflix/Kodi/Sling with the press of a button on Harmony or a voice command.

Look into eventghost if you have a pc running. I can launch apps from my remote with one button. Let me know if you have any questions.

So I don't know anything about harmony, but depending on what you can do, the USB port should respond to adb commands (probably requiring developer mode), and you can use adb to launch specific activities.

Would like to know this as well

I'd like to know this as well.

Would be cool to have one of the activity buttons default to spmc and the other to Pandora.

Nope. I sometimes use AirLaunch, it's an app/local webpage you browse to from your phone/laptop to launch an app that way - can be handy when you're lazy.

I'd love to be able to do this. I bought my Harmony remote kinda expecting this to be possible in some way so was disappointed when it wasn't.

I do a bit of Android development, so if someone can think of a way to technically achieve this I can write any code/app that would be necessary.

Looking for an answer here too.
