I have a nexus player without a remote and I'm looking for alternative remotes that have a microphone that is compatible with voice search.
I believe the Nexus Player remotes aren't being sold anymore. The Shield remote is being sold in Canada, but for $69, almost the price of the Nexus Player (a cheaper alternative would be great). I also don't think the Mi box remote is being sold separately (the one with voice search).
Any confirmed working alternatives?
There's a free alternative if you already own an Android phone or tablet.
You can download the "Android TV Remote Control" by Google in the play store.
You can connect your phone to your Nexus Player (or Shield or Mi Box) and control it via the on-screen D-Pad with back and play/pause buttons.
There's also a voice search button just like on the remote.
I use my Shield remote with my device, but I've tried the app, and it works great in a pinch.
