Gamepad for Mi Box

by HesutuRaul

I was looking to pick up a couple of inexpensive gamepads to play some emulated games with my kids. I ordered a pair of these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014KM80A0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 , but unfortunately, it appears your android device needs to be rooted. I didn't want to spend too much, because than I would start to reason, that I should just be buying a NVIDIA shield which comes with a controller for just $199. Anyone know for sure if there are $20 controllers that would work?

I bought one and the lag using Bluetooth was terrible so returned it

You should be able to use the Nexus Player gamepad I think.

Anybody tried the Ouya gamepads?

The Nexus Player Gamepad should do well.

You might also look into PowerA's Moga line. The Hero or Pro will do great in mode B (this is the standard HID mode; mode A is Moga's proprietary interface). Avoid the original Moga/Moga Pocket, though; it pre-dates Android's gamepad API, so it only works in what's considered Mode A on the other pads.
