question about non-Android TV apps on an Android TV box

by glassbase86

I am about to pickup some Mi boxes (since I don't need 4k/gaming and a much higher price tag that comes with Shields), but just need decent Kodi for local content only and Netflix and probably a few others once I have the boxes.

If I wanted to use some non-Android TV apps (sideloaded), do you require a mouse to use them or does the d-pad on Mi box remote work fine? What other issues do sideloaded apps have on Android TV OS?

Can anyone explain who has experience? I am in Canada and before I have a friend buy them at Walmart and ship them to me, would like to know...

Thanks.

Heres my experience. Sideloaded Amazon Video, nothing works. Chrome works fairly well with the remote, but using a wireless mouse is 100% better.

Prime works, as do others via sideloading. Search this sub for sideload.

The non optimized apps are made for touch screens so in most cases at the least a mouse is necessary. Some apps will only have partial functionality. Some phone apps will require a rotation control app installed. For me it is became too much hassle to try and make my Android TV box something it's not. It is possible to do some of the phone/tablet likely stuff though.
