Trying to cut the cord

by mrchumley-warner

Everyone in the family is sold on the idea of cutting the cord with one notable exception. My Fiancee's mom really enjoys watching the local TV station (KTLA5) in her mornings before work.

KTLA has an Android App, which I've tried to side-load but it's really janky. They stream via livestream.com but there isn't a Livestream app for Android TV, and sideloading the official mobile app is even uglier.

So, before I buy an antenna and the HDHomerun Extend, which is more than the cost of the Shield, can anyone think of another way to stream KTLA5 to the Shield TV?

Just doing a sanity check here: Have you considered just attaching a set of rabbit ears to the TV? If your reception is good and all you need is live TV, it'll solve the problem.

You don't need the hdhomerun extend. Grab the connect for half the cost. Assuming your shield can pull down 10-15mbps, the connect will do just fine.

Right now, there's no way besides an HDHomeRun tuner (Connect or Extend). But Google has included driver support for three different OTA tuners that plug into a USB port on Android TV devices running Android TV 7.0. Currently, only the now-discontinued Nexus Player box runs Android TV 7.0 and can work with those USB tuners. Hopefully the Nvidia Shield TV will get updated to 7.0 in the next few months and gain that capability.

Aside from just running an OTA antenna into the TV, I believe the Kodi addon called 'cCloud' has KTLA5 in it's news category.

But I'd probably just do an OTA antenna into the TV until a USB tuner launches for Android 7.

Mobdro android app google it, has all live TV and Chromecast support free.

You might be able to hook up their live stream via puppetmaster.tv?
