HDHomeRun or PS Vue?

by SpiderDice

Which one should I scrap my cable TV subscription for?

Andrroid

They're two different animals.

HDHomerun prime still requires a traditional cable subscription (and subsequently, a cable card) to work. All it does really is replace your cable box(es) (though you still will need client devices to access the HDHR stream). Playstation Vue is a cable service that is streamed over the internet through apps, recently released on Android TV.

And the HDHomerun Connect/Extend are entirely different in that they use an antenna as the content source.

What exactly are you looking to do?

Both are great. HDHomerun development seems to be ongoing while Vue is more of a finished product. It would be nice to see Vue add live channel integration. I could see why they might not want to, though. On Demand, live TV, and cloud DVR are all so quickly accessible in the app. Not sure if they could make as good experience within the Google APIs.

I had the HD Homerun Dual hooked up to OTA and was using Live channels as well as Sling TV. Fast forward to now, my HD Homerun is currently on sale on ebay and I'm in my PS Vue trial... will be cancelling SlingTv. I'll only need FOX OTA and for that I would switch my source input. Vue has 2 of the 3 local channels I ever cared for. Once you get Vue or Sling, you only need HD Homerun for local channels.
