Having difficulty connecting the Android TV remote app to new MiBox

This is really racking my brain here. The software on the box is up to date, and connecting to Google cast over my wifi network works fine, but I find that connecting the remote app is incredibly inconsistent connecting to the box, regardless of wifi or Bluetooth. I've tried setting a static IP as well and that hasn't helped. Any suggestions?

Disable any power saving mode on your phone

Make sure the box is in the home screen when you do the initial set up

Uninstall the Android TV app. Reinstall. Restart your phone. Restart your router. Restart the MiBox. Try again.
