Video stuttering/dropped frames on Mi Box

by NashGuy73

Is anyone else seeing video streams stutter or jerk often on their Mi Box, as though frames are being dropped or the video stream is freezing for a split-second and then resuming? I see this every time I stream video in Hulu, Netflix, YouTube, Plex, etc. in HD or SD. (I haven't streamed anything in UHD.) Some streams seem to be worse than others; it may happen a few times in the course of a minute and other times it may go minutes in between doing it. Multiple times I've rewound the video stream to see if the glitch would repeat. Sometimes it doesn't at all, sometimes it glitches again at the same moment but slightly less noticeably. I have the Mi Box set to output everything at 1080p60.

This isn't a bandwidth issue as I have 30 Mbps download speeds and very strong wifi, with the router very close to the Mi Box. Moreover, I do not see this issue at all using the same apps on other devices, such as an Apple TV 3 on the same network and TV.

I'm curious if this is a widespread problem with the video processing ability of the Mi Box or just a bug with my particular unit. I had been experiencing lots of other significant problems with it earlier (including total system crashes) but those problems seems to have cleared up after I did a full factory data reset and set up everything again.

This thread is supper helpful, I've had the same issues with mine.

I had issues with Netflix but my wifi strength was only "fair" so I moved the router so it's "excellent" and don't have issues now. What does your strength say on the wifi settings page?

I don't have it in Plex...but it happens in Emby for some reason.

What brand of TV do you have, I had same issue with my Vizio 4k m series. MiBox does not detect correct frame rate level based on HDMI ports. On my TV not all the ports do 4k at 60hz so I had to adjust settings on the mi box to 4k30hz and that got rid of the stutter.

In Settings --> Video Settings there should be something called Hardware Acceleration or something. Disabling that did the trick for me. Just google around a little bit and you will find the exact setting to change. I am not at home now, so can't give you the correct setting now.

ive noticed if your getting video stutters a reboot usually fixed it and also try turning on this setting, works great for me:

Playback > HDMI Self Adaptation > selected ON

I'm having the exact same issue. Bandwidth is fine. Other 4k streamer in the same room works perfectly... This is a consistently spaced out pattern of dropping frames/stuttering. Must be a Mi Box issue. Hope Walmart will take this back!

I did a factory reset and I can notice an improvement. That said it's still not perfect especially with 1080p videos

Did you ever find a fix for this? I just picked up a Mi Box and everything's plays amazing in 1080/60, but 4K 60/50/30 will chop a lot on Netflix and YouTube, but play local content fine.

Driving me nuts.

I have the same problem. Would love to know the solution. Wonder if android version 7 M will have any effect?
