I cannot get my USB thumb drive to "show up" anywhere when plugged into the Mi box. Tried both VLC/Kodi apps? Does the USB drive need to be formatted a certain way? It does show up under settings->Storage - but is unable to calculate free space

For media storage, I have only had success with fat32 and ntfs, formatted (and loaded with media) beforehand. Did not have any success with exfat.
I currently have a usb drive formatted (by the mi box) as internal storage and usb hard disk formatted as ntfs.
Use NTFS if you need 4GB+ files like for future DVR usage. Fat32 doesn't work for anything over 4GB.
you can try to use "ES File Explorer" to read the USB drive!
i have a similar experience with a 32GB SD card (in a USB reader). At first it worked and even managed to format it as internal memory (though the process crashed). Some apps were installed on it untill the device was restarted and then the SD became unreadable. I managed to bring it back to life with the PC and Sandisk Formatter - then i read it for some time untill it stopped. As far as i understand it there is a huge bug with external memory and hopefully an update fixes it soon.
How is it formatted now?
