Here is a simple tip to remove almost all bloatware from the Mi Box 4K

by FernandoRocker

I just purchased mi second Mi Box 4K (much better value than a Chromecast Ultra in my opinion).

After the initial setup, do the regular sysgen update. After the system update, go to Settings and do a Factory Restart. This will remove all the bloatware from the Recommended section(well, only Netflix and the Red Bull app will be in the Recommended section).

Is that really bloatware? None of those "recommendation" apps are actually pre-installed as far as I know.

Plus if you don't want to see the recommendation row on your home screen you can go into Settings -> Apps -> System Apps -> XiaomiLeanbackCustomizer and click 'Disable'.

After you restart your device, the entire 'Recommendations' row will no longer appear on your home screen. No need to factory reset the box.

Can you give some brief impressions on how the Mi Box handles 4k HDR content from Netflix? I like the idea of Android tv over the Chromecast ultra, but some people mentioned stutters while viewing 4k.

I'm leaning toward getting the CC Ultra as a stop gap until some better 4k options come out. I just wish it was $50 instead of $70.

Casting to my mi box is much slower and buggier then casting to my old Chromecast. I cast a lot and it is worth for to me to upgrade my old Chromecast to the Chromecast ultra for the better casting experience. The bad casting is the only thing I don't like about my mi box
