It's coming. NVIDIA takes about 4 months to get the latest Android release baked in. I dunno how much of those 4 months is Android getting adapted into the Android TV OS, but it's relatively quick. I expect Xiaomi to be in a similar range. As always, if you want the latest Android release ASAP, go with a Nexus product. The Nexus Player got Nougat 3 months ago.
Back to one of the op's original questions, nougat is coming. I'm looking forward to it.
I just posted the link to an Android authority article about them not promoting TV. I'm concerned as well because I had the Google TV and watched it go by the wayside.
They added a ton of features with Nougat, and big media apps are coming out on a monthly basis. What else do you want?
