On down time do u turn the box off, put it in suspend, or just let the Google cast wallpaper roll? I got the MI box so am mainly referring to that but feel free to answer on any Android TV device.

It goes into standby when I press the power button on my TV remote.
Shield suspends when not in use for an X amount of time but I usually suspend it when I'm done to save power and lifespan.
I rarely actually turn my Shield off completely because to turn it back on you have to manually tap the front of the device.
I put my Shield to sleep all the time though because doing so also turns off my TV (thanks hdmi-cec). Makes it so I don't have to bother with 2 remotes.
No
I'm not sure the mi box even has a power button, does it? Maybe in the settings.
Either way, no, I never turn any of my streaming boxes off.
I don't feel like going up to my Shield and hitting the power button. I just let it go to sleep after inactivity. I might come back to it in 5 minutes, I might not use it again until tomorrow.
When I specifically don't want my TV to be on I manually put my shield to sleep, otherwise I let it cycle through pictures until it falls asleep. I never shut it down, and only restart it when HBO GO is acting up (it's a terrible app).
On Shield TV, hold back from the Home Screen/Launcher and choose Sleep Now
I put my Mi Box in standby when not in use, just like I do with my cell phone. No point in powering it right down every time. Though I can see some value in leaving it powered all the time, so you can immediately cast to it. I wonder what the power consumption is between fully powered and standby.
I turn off all my boxes. If I'll be using it again in a few hours, I'll leave one on. But when I head to work, they're all off.
Never
