Has anyone tried sideloading DirectTV app?

by abadguy87

I have a Sony tv with android tv and I was wondering if, with a direct TV subscription, I can watch live TV by sideloading their app for tablets. Does it have an HDMI restriction? Thank you.

I tried a couple weeks ago on my Mi Box. It installs but that's about it. You have to use a usb mouse to navigate. When i tried to watch a live broadcast I got an error message.

I'm not sure but I'm genuinely interested and want to know the answer (I don't have DirecTV or I would try) if you don't get an answer, you should try it and let us know.

I tried it on the nvidia shield. I was not able to watch any stream. The app itself seemed to work (for the most part) fine but any channel results in an error. I tried sideloading both phone and tablet versions of the app. Both work just fine on their respective devices but neither worked on the shield. Maybe it will work on other android tv devices though.

Yes, on my nexus 7 in my car, nexus player, shield TV and old ugoos ut3 box, the TV boxes are running Android TV but instead a pure version that is like your phone. It's just what I prefer. I use the tablet version and get a few errors so far but it works.

My 2016 Sony TV with Android TV 6.0.1 has a "DirecTV Ready" app preinstalled on it.

I just sideloaded direct TV app this week on Xaiomi Mi and got it working for Live TV... The only catch is I have to use a mouse to navigate it.
