I don't necessarily want the more expensive one. Unfortunately Amazon fire tv can't ship to my location from the amazon store.
As far as I know there is nvidia shield and amazon fire tv, what other options are there and what would you recommend?

Nvidia Shield TV is the gold standard, and they've released a lot of updates. The Mi Box is cheap, but Xiaomi have a history of lagging Android versions by quite some time.
...I'd still like a Mi Mix though.
720p 23fps even a (OC'd) Raspberry Pi 2 is capable of CPU based HEVC playback (8 bit), but cpu load increases with resolution and bit color (8/10/12), but honestly most things can run h.265, what really matters is the quality of playback you desire, I have no issue with h.265 on my phone or set top box, granted I'm also not using super high quality files myself, as a side not hevc is still under development and is still being improved so perhaps we will see it become more efficient in time
All those cheapo knock off chinese S905 boxes play HEVC perfectly fine. S905X, some have issues with their firmware.
The mi box has been playing HEVC files from kodi just fine. Would recommend.
