It's pretty cheap, and comes with a lot of deals, so that's a big incentive to get it and deal with the issues it has
The USA Mi Box does have some quirks, but I think it's mostly for 4K related stuff, right? And it's $79. Not a lot of people are willing to spend $150-$250 on a Shield TV. The only other option is to find a Nexus Player or ADT-1 on ebay.
And Xiaomi has been making Mi Boxes in China for years. If you live in Asia, go for it. If you're in North America, just stick with the USA model.
Even the Shield TV launched with issues. The issues with the Mi Box will be fixed in time.
I have 2 with very small issues that don't affect my ability to do what I intended to do with them.
Well, the simplest answer is that we're enthusiasts, we're enthusiastic about the product, and so we want to share. But deep down I don't think this product line is ready, the things it does better than a chromecast are rough around the edges. But it has so much potential.

Really depends. I've had almost no issues with my mi box (USA version, I'm in the US). There have been some minor hiccups, mainly around apps. Would I call any of them bugs? Nope. Maybe I'm lucky. But my guess is more people are quietly enjoying their Mi Box, rather than the ones coming here with issues looking for solutions.
