Turning on a TV with Android TV

by VNavratil

Hello, I am a potential owner of Android TV device so I have one question about it.

How does Android TV behaves when you turn on the television? Can Android TV automatically appear on screen after launch, or you have to set a specific source on TV (such as viewing content of a connected HDD) to launch Android TV?

Thank you very much:).

With HDMI-CEC, an Android TV device can turn on the TV and switch to the correct input. Your TV just has to support CEC.

If the television has Android TV built into it, then you don't launch anything. Android TV is the operating system. Just turn the TV on.

What are you potentially buying exactly? A set top box like the shield or mi box or a TV with Android TV built in? The latter will require you to have the TV's source set to whichever HDMI the box is connected to and the latter will require the source be set to "TV".

The real question is how do you turn off the TV. My shield just goes to sleep, I don't ever actually turn the power off.
