Netflix issue on MiBox from Wally World.

by saberplane

Hey folks I've only seen blips of this mentioned elsewhere so hopefully a new post on this will bring some useful info:

I have the MiBox 3 from Walmart and I love the thing for most of everything (interface and speed of it wowed me) except I can't get Netflix to stream without the dreaded "we're having trouble playing this video" or whichever way it's phrased error popping up after about 15-30 seconds.

I tried factory resets, reinstalling Netflix, attaching the box to a different HDMI port on the TV, rebooting the modem and router, changing to the 2.4ghz channel, but all to no avail. Casting it to the box instead of using the app results in the same. My Chromecast works fine doing that. If I can't get this resolved I'll unfortunately have to return it as Netflix is a lot of what I d want to use it for.

Anyone else having the same issue or have any suggestions?

I just picked up a Mi Box today and I'm having this same issue. It's a real bummer. Ran through tech support with Netflix and Xiaomi and nothing helped.

I want to say it's on Netflix's end only because I have been having the issue within the past week, however I have been using Netflix almost daily for well over a month on the box. With the Mibox inches away from the router.

If you have the time I say try it a bit longer. If it keeps up switch the box after trying the adapter.

Do other peoples ESN for netflix contain the word Trial? Maybe thats the problem

Edit: typo

I just bought an Element 4K smart tv with the Netflix app. I can stream 4K shows without any issues consistently with it wirelessly. The same wireless network the Mi Box is on. Bottom Line, this isn't a Netflix or network issue, it's a Mi Box issue. Little confidence they will update their firmware and software to fix it. Advice to all...take yours back or do not buy! It's a worthless POS.

On all systems I use Netflix in my place it shows a category for shows in my country but not on the mi box. I remember I had similar problems a while ago when trying a vpn service. I think this issue is somehow related to Netflix not recognising where the box is so it shuts my play down. Netflix is fine an all other devices. Maybe I need to try the side load. Netflix support couldn't help and xiaomi told me to redo the firmware. I still haven't worked out how to do that.

Before you take it back, buy this cheap USB ethernet adapter.

I'm sure wally world sells it in their computer section. I confirmed it works. Have it working on two of my Mi Box's just fine and it's pulling the full 100 Mbps speed. With that speed you should have no issues playing two or three 4k movies at once.

I've gotten the same error at times and I found that rebooting the Mibox often fixed it (by holding down the power button and rebooting). But it's annoying, so if there is a better fix I'd love to hear it.

I've been having this issue now as well specifically for the Netflix app. I've tried all of the things you've mentioned above and contacted Netflix support as I thought it may have been an issue because I was overseas.

The only workaround/solution I've found is to sideload the Android version of Netflix, but it's not as nice an interface on the Android TV.

There was a solution from another post about HDMI self adaption which I might give a go to see how it works.

Really like the mi box, but disappointed with this issue. I'm hoping for a fix soon.

I have the same issue as all of you. I don't think it's the Mi Box, I think it's either my university's network or Netflix's problem. The same exact error pops up on my Xbox One and Fire TV Stick in 30 seconds, and my Xbox One is on Ethernet. My down speed ranges from 100-150mbps, so speed isn't the issue. I also noticed it sometimes crashes while watching certain shows which is odd. To top it off, I've never had this error when watching Netflix in a browser on my PC.

Does anyone else here use OpenDNS? Thinking maybe it's an infrastructure issue... instead of going to the nearest Netflix server, maybe we are trying to reach something else.

MiKeMcDnet

Be sure to call Netflix and let them know that this is an issue. Also, be sure to tweet to @Netflix and @NetflixHelps to log the issue... send them a link to this page to show them what is going on.

Where else have others seen this mentioned? Please post links to other sites describing problem!

FWIW I'm having the same issue with my nexus player. Kodi and YouTube work fine in high quality so I doubt it's a connection speed issue.

shep444

Same issue with only Netflix on Mi Box. Got fed up so I switched to a Roku Premiere +, no issues with it so far.

TurnoverMachine

Maybe - there is an option to change the quality from "auto" to HD in the web browser settings, and that seems like it has helped. Some shows are still not working well, though, family guy specifically. I assume that's from too many users watching leading to forced sub-HD quality leading to an error.

Go Comment the official forum ! We need this to work !

Looks like they just released a software update and in the update they reference Netflix. It's 550~ megs. I updated mine and so far with little testing it seems to work well...so far. Fixed???

vette3434

3 days of no errors and have only been watching 4K content.

Not sure if this is the issue, but here is what I have found

On the MiBox website I noticed the following under the Specs page for the device Security: Widevine L1 + PlayReady 3.0

I did a google search for this and found an article stating " Full HD and 4K video streaming in Netflix requires Google Widevine Level 1, and most devices only come with Level 3 which only supports standard definition, due to cost reasons. He also stated to use DRM Info to find what version your device is running.

I have an Nvidia Shield TV (version 1 with Android Nougut 7.0) and a MiBox. I installed DRM Info application on both devices.
I click on Google Widevine Modular DRM (which it stateds supported on both devices) but unter there I noticed on my Nviada Shield TV the following:

SDK Level 24

HDCP Level HDCP-1.x

Max HDCP Level Supported HDCP-2.2.

On the MiBox

SDC Level 23

HDCP Level Unprotected

Max HDCP Level Supported Unprotected

Not sure if this is why Netflix on the Mibox doesn't work and why on the Nvidia Shield TV it does.
