Am I the only only who has a terrible experience frequently with Kodi?

by atistang

I have a Nexus Player and a Shield TV, both have Kodi and SPMC installed.

I have a Qnap NAS with all my files on it and have Kodi linked via NFS. Most of the time if I click on one of my folders Kodi freezes up and I have to use the home button to get out of it. Then if I go to apps and Kodi there is no option to force close. If I do manage to get a file to play usually about 45 secs in the picture will freeze up but the audio will keep going. When this happens I have to reboot my device and try again. Usually I end up giving up as this happens almost every time.

The same thing happens if I try to use Exodus. Both Kodi and SPMC are doing the same thing on both my Nexus Player and Shield TV. Is this common, or does anyone know how to fix this issue?

No, never had any issue on my Shield TV with both Kodi and SPMC.

Have you tried to play local media in Kodi/SPMC? This can tell you if the issue is local or network. If a video file plays fine locally, it could be how the network share is set up, bandwidth, QoS on your router or any number of other possibilities.
If you have the same issue with local media, it is likely a local issue. Check if you have enough space to handle the cached data, a common setting inside of Kodi/SPMC (I think they use the same cached files), Add-on eating up system resources or reset.

Something isn't right, I have both also and zero issues. Maybe try a beta?

I didn't have trouble with it exactly, but it is frustrating to me. More frustrating than when I use Plex.

It did its job for me, I just didn't want to spend the time and effort to set it all up. I haven't used it at all in a few years.

No issues with my Shield TV, but Sony's Android TV needs a little work. Could the issue be your NFS server? I use NFS with FreeBSD/ZFS

How is your network? You might search/ask /r/HomeNetworking on how to troubleshoot the network.
