How are you using steam big picture on your shield?

Gamestream is really cool.

Aside from using it to stream games, I love just using it to remote desktop into my desktop.

I added a regular program as a "non-steam game" to my Steam library.
So when I open Gamestream -> Steam -> and select say "Foobar2000", it will open Foobar2000 on my PC and give me access to the rest of my desktop.

I found with a cheap bluetooth mouse I have paired to the Shield, it will take control of the computer's cursor and I can do whatever I want.
There is literally zero delay as well which is freakin' awesome.

Yeah, how is that possible? Also how is the Nest app there too?

Maybe this would be a good place to ask this question:

I own a Shield, but I have an AMD R9 390X video card, so I can't use Gamestream. I also own a Steam Link, which is how I currently stream games from my PC to TV. Does anyone know if it would be worth it for me to sell my R9 + Steam Link and buy an Nvidia card to stream games through the Shield + Gamestream, or should I just keep the current setup?

I got the Steam Link for $20 in the last sale. It works pretty well with my average PC

Wait, can i use steam on the shield without a computer? Or is that a dumb question?

Are you able to use a remote that is NOT the Shield remote for gameplay? Such as an Xbox One remote? I have a GTX 980ti and a shieldtv.

I was in an 100% windows OS free home network, but I had some spare parts and upgraded the GTX 770 in the hackintosh, so I built a dedicated living room gaming system.

I used gamestream when building for troubleshooting and testing. I found that gamestream worked out awesome, and for the couch I prefer controllers so I ended up keeping the tower out of the living room.

Only thing that gets to me is, that it'll find some steam games, but not find others for the gamestream main menu.
I can launch portal 2 directly from the gamestream but with other games I have to go through big picture. Now if I go through big picture to launch portal 2 then the controller dosen't work in game.

It works with origin too, but I only have one game and it's officially supported (Dead Space 3) so YMMV.

TL:DR Gamestream is great.

I tried Gamestream once to play Rocket League and quit after 2 minutes because of input delay.
