I can watch live events on the app on my phone, and cast it to my tv, however when I installed the same app on the mi box, it just shows past clips? Can that be right??

The app will display a live feed when it has one to show. The only times I've seen it were the aforementioned Superbowl and the Thursday Night Football games CBS bought this year. I would also expect it to work during March Madness this year.
I watched the Super Bowl on it a couple of years ago, but otherwise, it's pretty useless.
