Does anyone want to list any "must-have" apps, sideloaded or otherwise, for their Android TVs?

I know Kodi is pretty essential, but what else has enhanced your AndroidTV experience?

As far as I know SMPC is more optimized for Android TV versions(amlogic devices) than the regular Kodi version.

Not content, but Aerial Dream is an awesome replacement for the standard Google Cast screen saver. It uses the exact scenes from Apple TV's aerial view.

Umlautica

AirPin Pro to use the Shield as an AirPlay server.

Live in Canada so Hulu and HBO are no good for us. Amazon Prime just became active here.

So basically Netflix and Kodi.

Mr_You

PlutoTV, Crackle, TuneIn

RetroArch. The Shield will comfortably play anything up to and including Dreamcast.

I also use SPMC and highly suggest using it (or Kodi) as the main launcher for android TV. You can select Android Apps to show up on the kodi main screen. Provides a much cleaner and customizable interface.

My must have apps are:

  • XBMC launcher (allows you to set your flavor of kodi as launcher)
  • HopWatch (android tv Reddit viewer)
  • Vimeo android TV app
  • Solid Explorer (not exactly Android TV app but it works)
  • Mouse Toggle [ROOT]

LODI instead of kodi, you'll thanks me! Also Showbox & Terrarium but you'll need a mouse/air mouse/keyboard with trackpad for the last two. I could add more but it's late. comment on this and I'll come back with a list :D

Netflix. Hulu. HBO Now. Amazon Prime. Kodi w/ Smoothstreams account.

Done. Nothing else required. Except maybe a usenet sub.

i sideloaded a file explorer to browse downloads. sideloaded pushbullet just so i can send files to it a lot easier than transferring to usb then plugging in. sideloaded beta chrome (i think it was beta. need at least a mouse plugged in. i don't use it often but it's nice to have. this one isn't a general recommendation but some might need/want it). sideloaded amazon app store cuz i had some apps i got for free from their giveaways, installed fine and apps run fine. mobdro for live tv stuff. kodi/fusion for more advanced tv/movie stuff.

PhyerFly

Sideload launcher - For sideloaded apps with no leanback launcher icon

Photo Screensaver - For displaying an album of my Google photos as the daydream/screensaver on my TV downstairs

Moonlight - to play my Steam games from my computer in the bedroom on the TV in the living room
