Alright I must have an android TV box... but which ones are supported by Netflix HD and 4k?

I've just learned that for all time I have only been getting 720p on my pc media server in my living room. This simply will not do. I've been researching options and AndroidTV looks sweet, affordable, and small. But I cannot find an official list of which devices are supported by netflix? I ordered the Minix Neo U1 without doing much research. Even though it says it supports 4k, I guess netflix doesn't support it so i'll be limited to 720p on that. I'm gonna return it and get something else, but what?

Generic Android boxes, such as your Minix, only support Netflix at a MAX resolution of 480.

You may be getting 1080p, if your PC is running Microsoft Edge, (other browsers are limited to 720p), provided your bandwidth allows and you have the right Netflix package. Get Mi Box (mdz-16-ab) from Walmart for $69 if you are in USA. You will get at least 1080p and possibly higher, up to 4K(UHD) again, depending on your TV, bandwidth and Netflix package.

MiBox or Shield Console.

Are you wanting an actual Android TV device or just a random android box? Pretty much everything supports 1080p. For actual Android TV devices the only stand alone boxes out there that I know of are the Nexus Player, Mi Box and Shield TV. All of those support 1080p and the latter two support 4k.

There are Android TV boxes and then there are Android boxes.

If you want Netflix's blessing, you need to buy an official Android TV box and not some Chinese piece of junk that Netflix has never heard of.

I would say get a Mi Box, as it's cheap and has great functionality. I do, however, experience problems with Netflix, such as video "hiccups", frames being skipped. Many other users report this problem, and some report more serious errors, like titles failing to play altogether. So, until Xiaomi actually decides to do something, I say stay away from the Mi Box for now.

If you must get an android box (not android tv box), get any of the wetek boxes. They support 1080p netflix and run stock android.

For android tv, Mi box is your cheapest solution, nvidia shield is your best solution but most costly.

I wonder if Chromecast Ultra would work? If it doesn't have to be Android TV that is. I have neither the Ultra or Netflix so I can't test.

Make sure you're paying for the Netflix subscription that offers the resolution you want too. I have a 4k/UHD android TV and had to up to $9.99 monthly for that quality.
