Kodi or Plex over your network instead of casting.
Cast? Just access them thru the Local Network menu of VLC, with your Mi Box remote & give your phone a break power-wise.

It can cast pretty much any video you find online (except for amazon prime instant video), as well as files stored on your device or in your network.
AllCast is the best way to "Cast" them from a phone. In my opinion the best way to watch them if you are on your home network is Archos.
Thanks for all of the feedback guys. Gonna tinker today and see what works best.
Videostream for Chromecast works pretty well too if you use Chrome.
