MiBox issues

by Seanmrowe

So I got a MiBox for Christmas to replace my Nexus Player, however I'm having more issues with the MiBox than I did with the NP.

Last night I was using it and the remote randomly disconnected. It took a while to figure out how to reconnect it. It then disconnected a few more times. I had a similar issue with my Nexus player which is why I wanted to "upgrade".

I also have trouble with Kodi, it crashes nearly every time I try to open it. It works well once I get it open but often it won't open at all. Never had this issue on the NP.

Should I return it and get a different MiBox, should I get a Nvidia Shield or should I go back to the NP because AndroidTV is just buggy?

I'd try a complete reset. See if that helps. I have two Mi Boxes and run Kodi on both and don't have any crashing issues on open.

Been using them since October.

Resetting is in the settings somewhere. Not in front of it so I can't tell you exactly how to get to that part, but it shouldn't be hard to find.

Not a solution per se but what about using SPMC instead of Kodi? It's the specific Android fork and you might have fewer problems.

If you're having Bluetooth connection issues, you might have 2.4ghz congestion in your house. Bluetooth also uses 2.4ghz band. I had same issues in my house and disabling 2.4ghz band on the wifi router fixed everything for me.

Give it a try.

Bluetooth uses 2.4 spectrum. Meaning if you're in an apartment highrise and everyone has their own wifi on the 2.4 band, you're fucked.

I did factory reset and it seems to work better now.

My remote also occasionally disconnects, although my nexus player did that all the time too. Overall I like my Mi box better than my nexus player but the fact that adoptive storage doesn't work on Mi box makes it a downgrade sometimes. I also miss Android 7. Xiaomi really needs to get on that update.

I've not had any issues with mine... but you might try making sure it's done any system software updates and then go do a system reset. I've heard others mention that doing that corrected some issues.

Try different batteries in your remotes.

Thanks for all the tips everyone, I reset it and it seems OK right now. We shall see if things continue.

I don't think my router has any other option but 2.4ghz. could be wrong...

I havent had any issues with mine however, set the in laws up with one on Xmas day. Setup issues right out the box. Was able to get the OS running to where I could run an update. Haven't heard anything back yet.

I has some issues with Kodi on my Mi Box also, reboots the device and changes resolution when browsing folders etc a bit randomly. I change skin and and osd to fit screen and then it might reboot and reset the kodi settings. Sometimes i can view a movie without any issues, sometimes it just starts rebooting. I am running plex on it also and that works flawless. So getting the feeling that kodi makes it extra unstable somehow.
