photo player (screensaver) for android TV?

by mrhansenable

hey guys

have spent probably 10+ hours in the last two days trying to resolve this. If anyone can help me I'd be eternally grateful.

I bought an AKASO T95M Android TV Box from Amazon. Daydream "photo frame" doesn't work, it crashes every time. I've updated google play services, and the system. Contacted the company, no response. Might return it.

In the meantime, trying to find a 3rd party app for displaying photos, randomly, with the time on screen and the file info in the corner. Have tried as many as I can find and they're all crap.

Google photos -- can't seem to load in the photos or even set any photo display properties.

Dayframe -- pretty good. but doesn't display any photo info. Also it tends to over crop and is apparently unable to FIT a photo correctly into the screen.

Photo gallery and screensaver -- works great except it's not yet android BOX compatible so there's tons of glitches. Can't get more than 50 photos, and it's not random.

I've tried probably 5 other apps s well. Some don't have "random" feature. Some auto-rotate portrait to landscape every time. Some have bloaty menus on while the photo is displayed.

I'm really surprised there is no one solid app out there to handle this simple SCREENSAVER job. This is a problem I might have faced 20 years ago.

Developers could stand to make a good buck off this gap in the market. I'd be willing to pay a pretty penny to make this head ache end.

You want an official Android TV device: Nvidia Shield (update coming soon) or Mi Box (USA model). You can then use Google Photos, Facebook, or Flickr to display photos in the screensaver (called Daydream).

Photo Gallery and Screensaver (linked above) works great! The free version is limited to 50 photos. For $1.99, you can access your entire Google Photos library. There's other services the app supports, but I only use it for displaying Google Photos. You can customize what albums you want displayed and which you want hidden. It's Android TV compatible. I haven't noticed any glitches, works fine for me.

Edit: My experience is with multiple Shield TVs.

Pardon me sir, but you are a dumbass and got ripped off. You should buy a real Android TV device instead of a device that hooks to your tv that runs a phone version of android.

You should read the first or 2nd post on this sub. Then you won't be so dumb.
