Android TV wont find Wifi

by filiard

Few days ago I bought a new Bravia TV (50W80xC). When i was setting it up, I couldnt connect it to my WiFi, but I blamed my old shitty router. Yesterday i bought a new router, set up a network, but it still won't work. My TV doesnt even find the SSID. Using WPS via button or Pin code doesn't work either. All other devices in my house can see the netwotk and connect to it. I also set up a temporary router by tethering from my phone, and the TV can connect to this one. What may be the problem?

Hold the power button down on the TV's remote until it starts a hard shutdown then power it back on and try. Otherwise check Sony's website for a firmware update you can load on a thumb drive.

This has happened on both my Philips Android TV and my Shield TV with the router provided by my ISP. Other stuff can see it but both of these devices cannot. A Netgear router solved the problem.

If it's a firmware issue, can you temporarily connect it via Ethernet (if there is a port to do so)?

Can you manually enter the SSID and connect that way?

I had a similar thing happen on my Shield where it wouldn't find my 5GHz network. Although different device, hopefully this will help you out. I ended up changing the wifi channel and my Shield saw my 5 GHz network.

Is the SSID hidden? Some peripherals can't connect to a hidden SSID.

What model is the new router? Have you tried changing the wireless channel on the router to something like 1, 6 or 11?
