Nvidia says that existing Shield TV devices will get the new one’s features through a software update delivered sometime in January.

Really though, did any of you doubt this? Software support for this thing has been nothing short of fantastic.

Also, the video in this article shows the Netflix app relocated to the apps section.

I just want to take a moment to say that Shield TV is the best gadget investment I've ever made. 2 years in, it's still the best in it's class, and they're giving it all the features of the new model. Damn glad I bought it!

The shield hardware is exactly the same. Only the controller is redesigned.

I think the always on microphone is something you will have to buy, I think they are calling them "spots" and I think they are going to sell them for 40 bucks a piece. So I don't think the remote will be always on they will force you to buy a microphone for it.

Anyone know if I could use one of the new controllers with my old shield? I hate using the gamepad as a TV remote and would love to buy the standard stick version. But if I could but the updated version with hands free compatibility I'd do that

Does anyone know if we'll be able to gamestream from Mac (via steam maybe?) or is it still PC only?

I wonder if there will be a hardware limitation that doesn't allow the always-on Assistant to work.

Hopefully they make the existing models work with the Spot too.

All of this is coming to the gen 1 shield but the assistant piece of it is still months away from being released from what I understand. So the new Shield won't have the assistant capability out of the box when it ships in a few weeks, but will get a software update " in the coming months"
