New controllers are available for pre-order on Amazon. I just ordered one.
Everyone is saying if you have an old one don't upgrade but I'm gonna get crazy and say "If $200 isn't an issue, then upgrade." Hopefully I won't get fucked for saying this but hear me out:
I will be upgrading mine to the new one even though I have an old one because they are doing a really good thing here by giving us the same software - if this was Apple there's no fucking way they would give us old users all the same features as the new users. I also own an Apple TV 2, 3, and 4(and a RasPi) but they collect dust now because Nvidia killed it with this product and I don't see going back to getting screwed again.
This is a company move that is treating us very well, and I want to support that with my wallet. If you can, then lets let them know that customers like being treated like this and lets support a company that does it. If that's not in your budget then obviously keep the old and enjoy all the great new goodies that they have given you for FREE and be thankful they didn't Apple you(and its not just Apple, I am starting to expect it from all companies now and for understandable reasons - they are being really good to us here, be good back).
Don't throw away money you need, don't eat ramen for a month if thats what ya need to do, but if you can easily show them we appreciate it then let them know by supporting them so hopefully this becomes more common - at least common from them, I don't expect to see this kinda shit from most companies.
Edit: formatting and wording.
Likely January 16th update as mentioned in the article, I'll take it!
