According to online chat rep, the new Shield remote does NOT have a headphone jack; only the controller does.

In case you were wondering like me...

Android TV supports Bluetooth headphones fyi. I've seen a lot of people who have no clue about that fact in threads about remote headphone jacks.

EDIT: Apparently Sony Bravias do not support this feature for some reason. I know for a fact the Nexus Player can do this as of Marshmallow, and I've seen multiple people say it works on the Shield.

Many speculated so, because it runs on a coin battery now.

I have the old controller, but plan on getting the new system. Do we know if the headphone jack function will work through that remote?

Thanks for confirming! I added a note to the comparison chart.

Too bad, this is a killer feature for me. I use it all the time on my Roku, and I was looking to replace my Roku with a Shield.

Makes sense since the console now defaults to coming with both.

Got the Shield yesterday and was really happy fiddling with the controller, until I decided it's time to check out the remote. Guess what ... there really is no headphone jack on the remote :( Also they decided to use button cells for the remote, which is even worse ( pic ). So no USB charging. Why Nvidia.. why? Oh btw, the mic in my voice remote hardly picks up any speech. But this could be just my device..

can confirm this, got mine today
