The plex server feature is great, but it doesn't seem like there is an easy way to add videos if using an external hard drive. Is there anyway to remotely put files onto the hard drive while keeping it connected to the Shield?

What about the smb feature in settings/storage? Or does this give access to internal storage only?
I don't have one yet , this would be the deal breaker if I couldn't. I hope you could run a smb server or sshfs on the $199 Shield and share your external drives on your network.
I think there is a way to do it through ES file explorer but I could never get it to work.
Why don't you attach the external hard drive to a PC then map the drive in Plex?
VNC is another option. I no longer have a Shield but I seem to remember it working for file transfers.
Shouldn't you, if you have it set up via adopted storage, be able to access that storage space through SMB using Windows?
sideload the Servers Ultimate Pro app. There's an SMB server
TeamViewer QS?
