PSA: New Xiaomi Mi Box update fixes problem with external storage.

by yorch7

Just a quick note for those who have a Mi Box. At the beginning whenever you wanted to use a external USB drive as a storage, the app will crash and it would not not. With this new update to my surprise, one of the first things that the system did when it rebooted is asking me what to do with the external USB drive that it detected. It asked me if I wanted to use it as an internal storage or external. Did the proper formatting, (which before it will crash) and then proceeded to move data to the storage drive.

It is not Nougat yet but at least we get something new to use.

This morning I couldn't turn the Mi Box on via bluetooth remote or my harmony remote. I had to pull the power then plug it back in.

I'll keep checking it to make sure it's working.

Best thing I noticed so far is when I urn my mi box off (put it too sleep really) my tv now knows to swap HDMI inputs back to my cable box :)

I still can't get Netflix to work.

How do you apply this update? Is it automatic or do I have to do it manually, and how?

I have a USB Ethernet adapter that I purchased last week. Works great during day but overnight (or long periods of time), it somehow becomes disabled. In order to get my Mi Box to recognize my Ethernet, I need to restart it.

Is this happening to anyone else? Thoughts?

It also breaks the HDMI-CEC auto TV on feature.

EDIT: It seems to be just for my TV model or brand (Samsung). While fixing issues with other TVs this update has broken it on mine.

Still only giving the illusion of moving apps to external storage internal storage is still being used. 7.0 is still going to be needed for the feature to actually work.
