Absolutely. While there's not a ton of 4K Prime content, it sucked having to switch to my TV's app to watch anything due to the hacked Sony APK only working with 1080p.
Even more I'm also hoping Nvidia fixed the messed up bug which prevented mounting network drives with spaces in the share name. I have the files my PC's Plex server feeds from on a GoFlex and would prefer to use the SHIELD's Plex server to pull from it so I don't have to fire up the beefy gaming rig on those days I'm just rolling with my phone/tablet/laptop on the couch. But because the share has spaces - i.e. "GoFlex Home Public" - it is impossible to map the drive.
I have wasted HOURS trying to work around it and short of using SSH to to into the drives firmware and editing the name (at the risk of borking it entirely), I'm SOL. This has been noted by others at the GeForce forums and Nvidia's silence indicates they're content to ¯_(ツ)_/¯ at the issue.
Beta of the Nougat update has only been out for a few days, I doubt we'll see this so soon

I installed the extracted Amazon app from the Gen2 on my Gen1. From what I can tell, it works about the same as the old TV one that has been out there for awhile.
Biggest problem I have is I use a Firestick remote with my shield and Amazon Video doesn't work right with it. Whenever I try and hit the center button to select something, it does nothing. So, I have to drag out the controller. Hope there is some kind of fix for that.
As proper as it gets, at least. Don't get your hopes up for amazon apps having a non shit UI.

You guys need to lower your time expectations. There's no guarantee the shield gen 1 owners are getting the update tomorrow.
