Besides no ads, what are some other benefits of rooting the Mi Box?

I'm not really running any apps with ads, so besides installing AdAway, I am wondering what some other benefits might be to rooting the Mi Box.

Can it be rooted? I purchased the SixAxis tool for an old phone a few years back, and I was interested in seeing if it worked on the Mi Box, but it needs root. I thought the Mi Box couldn't be rooted, due to the locked bootloader.

If you figure out how to add an LTE chip, you might be able to tether. (joke). Never found a good reason to root Android TV.

Maybe being able to mount a network drive so you can load roms from it. This isn't as big of an issue now that the external storage issue is fixed though.
