I've separated out a review of the controller, too, for those that already own the original SHIELD and don't want to buy the whole new box. https://www.slashgear.com/nvidia-shield-controller-review-gen-2-2017-16471979/

Just picked up one this morning. Very little time with it so far, but impressed, especially with the PC game streaming. I was able to stream Forza Horizons 3 and Gear of War 4 from my PC flawlessly and they look/play at a constant 60 FPS with no hitches.

EDIT: One quirk: for some reason my Blizzard games aren't playing nice. I'll have to troubleshoot it.

Anyone know how to get the shield remote to turn on/off the TV? The IR Blaster clearly knows how to adjust volume, which is great, but is there some sort of button combination to get it to control TV power? Putting it to sleep does not turn off the TV either.

Grabbed a new 2017 last night from Best Buy. Didn't have time to do much with it besides install the new GF experience and upgrade the controller firmware. It wouldn't seem to output video when connected to my Sony STR-DA2400ES receiver, so I'll be troubleshooting that tonight... I've read it working for others, so it might be a config problem on my end. The Shield worked fine when connected directly to my display.

On the positive side, it does work with my touchscreen display and mouse/keyboard, so I expect the Chrome experience to be good. Also connected problem-free to my Synology NAS, but I haven't done any streaming yet.

Next steps:

  1. Troubleshoot receiver problem.
  2. Get PS4 Remote Play working.
  3. Test streaming locally.
  4. Configure and test Amazon Prime, Hulu, Netflix, etc.
  5. Test Chrome usability.

Question guys.....I have a NAS connected to my router and have all my movies there....if I use the new shield as a plex server...does my Metadata store on the NAS or one 16 GB storage in the shield?

Gizmodo mentions the BBC iPlayer, any idea if we can side load an APK of that on to US Shields?
