IPTV

by Dolme

Hello there!

I am a newbie in the topic, and i don't know how things are going, so i turned to you guys, maybe you could help me.

I live in Hungary, and we have IPTV. We have a set-top box, but it's from the service provider, and we don't like it. We have to pay for it every month, and they don't let us buy it, so our bills will be higher. The question is, if I buy a set-top box from any online merchant, can we watch the programs with it? Or it's only working with the provider's set-top box? Are there any TV-s which has a built in set-top box, working with IPTV? Smart TV-s need a box too, don't they?

Notice: I don't really have any knowledge about these.

Thanks: Daniel

You can probably use something like TVHeadend as a DVR backend running on a computer and then Kodi/SPMC as a client on AndroidTV and get the type of thing you're looking for.

You can use any android box to watch "grey area" IPTV channels but not from your provider. Those are locked to their box. PM me if you need more info.

This depends on the service you are using. Do you have any further information about it? Do you have to log in with username or password? Can you use it via PC? Or is there an android app for it?

Most of the time the provider wants you to rent their device. So they design their service that way that you cannot use it on other devices.
