Thanks for the heads up, I went to store and they had 2 in stock for $34.99 each. I am comparing this 2015 remote to the 2017 remote and the 2015 feels so much more well crafted with its anodized aluminum body and backlit button.
Did they have any of the Gen 2 for sale in the store?

Not worth it as always on is a killer feature for handsfree tv
Remote = tv like controller, there is no always on (2015 or 2017)
Controller = Game pad, always on only on 2017 version

Terrible remote unless you want the private listening. Got it free with my OG SHIELD and feel like I overpaid for it. Better to save the money and get a Harmony 650 for $30-$50 (depending on deals) and run your entire system with it. So much better for the SHIELD than the stock remote.
i could be wrong, but i thought the original shield remote is not made for google assistant becuase it doesn't have the always on mic like the new one. i could be wrong just thought i'll bring to your attention just in case it doesn't work
