I am still not able to play Netflix for more than 10 seconds on my box.
I am still not able to play Netflix for more than 10 seconds on my box.
interesting. I do not have this problem on Mi Box. I'm using wifi, on a good solid fast connection. But if you don't have any issues with other streaming apps, I agree that a factory reset may be in order if an uninstall/reinstall of Netflix doesn't fix the issue.
I can get mine to fix itself by changing the screen resolution and switching it back to what I was using. Like switch to 1080p50 and wait for the confirmation dialog to come up and then switch back to 1080p60 and make sure to get the confirmation dialog again. This usually fixes it for me until the next time I reboot.
Very interested in this thread but for all those chiming in who've not heard of this issue before, please don't go down path of wireless, strength of wireless, etc. Pretty much 99.99 percent certain this is an issue with the mi box. Why.......well
I have bypassed wireless completely via a USB ethernet. Netflix internet connection speed is 42 mb and still this error occurs.
I can vary how long before the error occurs. The better my connection the longer it will play, but no longer than 20 to 30 seconds. For instance forcing 1080 on wireless n where netflix shows connection of 4 to 10 mb i get a fraction to 2 seconds of play. If I change to wireless a or c only where I have 15 to 25 mb then I'll get 5 to 15 seconds. If I go to a wired connection then I get 20 to 30 seconds.
Not even certain that the connection is the issue or simply how much it is caching to the mi box. Could even be bad memory on the mi box that prevents caching and thus a better connection masks the issue.
I have factory reset multiple times. Sideloaded the android tv version of netflix. Tried a different netflix account. Tried with a memory key formatted as internal memory and moved netflix to external memory (asks you to move apps when you format as internal memory). I have tried giving permissions for the netflix app to storage.
All to no avail.
If you are not close to a retailer where you can return your Mi Box - DON'T BUY ONE! There are multiple posts on this issue including an official thread on Xiaomi to which they have not replied.
For those of you wanting netflix - you can sideload the tablet version........it works fine. Interface isn't as nice as Android TV version though and you're not likely to get 1080 let along 4k.
To note further - Kodi and Plex are working fine.
To me it "appears" to be a caching/buffering issue. Either simply due to a software setting we can't change to cache more.......or perhaps this being a cheap product Xiaomi is using junk memory which indeed is causing unseen write errors preventing netflix from caching enough of the stream.
Xiaomi - you suck. Good luck trying to increase sales on ANY of your devices in North America with junk service like this.
I believe you live in Canada. Netflix is different in Canada I think. Could be your entire issue.
Sorry, I don't have a fix for you. I've experienced the same issue twice (once on launch day, and the second after the recent update). Both times I tried clearing cache, uninstalling and reinstalling, with no luck. Both times it ended up fixing itself and worked fine the next day.
Generally, my experience has been positive.
Your internet, are you using a bridge (wireless router to wireless device and from that device you have it hardwired to). What is your speed of internet? Do you have multiple devices connected to you internet (downloading/streaming in the background or foreground. This includes streaming devices, game consoles, computers, cell phones, tablets, etc.)?
Also, is it only Netflix? Any other streaming services that works or doesn't?
Edit: I haven't had that problem either.
I contacted Netflix again, they say that this is a Xiaomi issue. Please contact Xiaomi and complain at service.us@xiaomi.com
"Netflix Paul Hey, just checked with my team and it seems the new firmware update by Xiaomi didn't fix this bug. Thanks for letting us know about it, be sure they're still working on this to get this fixed as fast as possible. If there's anything else I can help you with, please let me know.
You so we have to wait for Xiaomi to fix this?
Netflix Paul This is correct, as it's something to do with their firmware version."
Same in Germany, reboot solved the problem
What version Mi Box - I'm in Canada running a brand new MDZ-16-AB and have no issues watching entire movies on Netflix. I have gone and picked up an Apple 10/100 USB ethernet adapter because I was a little concerned about the slow Netflix test speed I was getting over wifi - and am getting about 65 MBps out of that.
I would be very happy to know someone came up with a fix. I bought it this week to replace my 2015 Chromecast and Netflix not working has been a huge disapointment for me. If I can't get it working I am sure going to return the box.
Thanks. I will do so.
Try to connect with another HDMI cable. Solved the issue for me. The HDMI cable distributed by Xiaomi is defective or low quality. Factory reset and uninstall/reinstall Netflix didn't fix the issue.
FYI - My fix was to return the defective Mi box and buy a new one.
You can install most android mobile app on android rv by simple saving the apk on a usb stick (using a program like apk save) and, using on your box a file explorer, install.
And so you can have netflix normal version. It works.
But... It is necessary an external keyboard/mouse. I have not tested the app that may use a mobile as a remote control, cause a have a usb wireles mouse/keyboards and worked fine.
The problem is with xiaomi box app.
Even Popcorn time can be installed this way and run smotly.
Never had any issue like that, how's your wireless connection? Have you considered a factory reset? Also possibly look into a USB ethernet adapter, I bought my parents one for their Mi Box if you need a recommendation.
