Help with audio passthrough in kodi

by jerkyxiii

Have a Le Eco tv with built in Android tv, audio connected to denon receiver via optical cable. Trying to watch movies with dts surround. If i pay the file via a fike browser and use the default video player it works perfect, audio and video are great DTS pops up on the receiver. When i play the same file in kodi by default it doesnt send the dts signal. If i enable passthrough i get no sound and the video stops. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I can get around it by using a separate app but would really like to have everything in one place that is also wife friendly. Before anyone suggests plex i would also like to not have my computer on all the time to act as the server, at the moment everything did on a drive connected to my router.

Have you modified the audio settings in Kodi?

Maybe try SPMC instead?? Others report better luck getting passthrough to work SPMC.

When you select the number of speakers in kodi make sure you select 2.0 instead of 5.1 or whatever. I know it's weird, but it works.

AFAIK Kodi (v16) anyway has issues / doesn't support audio passthrough of many formats. SPMC does and, I believe, v17 of Kodi fixes this (but it's still in Beta and users are reporting the passthrough is broken). I was getting popping / hissing on my ShieldTV when trying to watch DTS / most 5.1 encoded stuff, but SPMC fixes all that. It's kodi, but developed for Android by the original Kodi Developer who was looking after the Android aspect. All that passthrough works as do all the normal Kodi things. And regarding the video not playing back smoothly, have you set the 'adjust framerate to match video', I know it works on the Shield, but the TV will need to support 24p, 23.97p, etc...
