With the gen 2 base model Shield, is there anyway to get 100% of the remote features mapped to a universal remote? The only problem I see is voice search. With android 7.0 it's always listening, so it shouldn't be a problem, right? I could just leave the Shield remote in the drawer and use my universal remote.
The remote does not do always listening just the game controller the box itself has no mic

put a usb webcam on the shield (you can cover the lens), map your universal remote key to 'search' keycode, profit
works pretty well but depends on how far away the mic is, etc.
another option is a usb dongle remote that includes a mic on the remote-side, closer listening, but probably not the 'universal' remote you had in mind. (this probably won't ever support 'always' listening, though)
I use a harmony remote, so there's no mic built in. I'm on Gen1. I have a USB mic plugged into the shield. Mapping the Windows key to the harmony remote then activates the voice search. Not sure if the mic will be always listening once the update and assistant become available, we'll see...
