What Makes A Good Android TV Box?

I am thinking of buying one for my brother, but I am a bit confused. What is the difference between a 50$ box and nvidia shield?

I mean if he only wants to watch tv. Is there any actual difference?

Also from my research I found out that Android tv is not good for watching live sports. What do you mainly uses yours for?

There isn't a $50 Android TV device so there's that. Basically you have the Mi Box and the Shield TV. Anything else is probably not an actual Android TV device.

I've heard of people using Kodi to find streams for sports but I just browse reddit for a stream and then cast it to my Shield. It's a lot easier to find a new stream on my laptop if it starts going wonky or drops completely.
