My new Shield TV does 4K/60Hz but my Mi Box is capped at 30Hz.

What could be causing this? I use the same TV, same cable, and same port. All HDMI ports on my TV are capable of HDMI 2.0, with HDCP 2.2 compliance. I've used three Mi Boxes on this TV, and they all have their FPS capped off at 30 (and SMPTE). It's the same on my brother's TV, which is the identical model. Yet, the Mi Boxes worked fine on my father's 4K TV.

What could possibly be the problem with my TV and the Mi Box, if my television set is obviously capable of 4K at 60 FPS?

  • I've tried a few other boxes, like the Roku and the Chromecast Ultra. Both output the desired 4K/60.
  • TV's a Westinghouse 50" 4K, WD50UC4300

Also, I had this weird thing with Netflix. It showed 4K content once on my Mi Box (I have the $11.99 subscription to broadcast 4K), then it disappeared entirely. I returned it, bought a new one, and had the same problem. It's like it's unable to detect that my TV is capable.

Didn't know that the Mi Box was capable of 4k 60 fps.

What's your TV?

Have you checked the settings on the Mi Box? Mine was set to 4k30fps by default for some reason and I just changed it in resolution.

This might be a stupid question, but is your HDMI cord HDMI 2.0 spec?

Does your tv settings have a "Motion Blur", "LED Motion Plus", "Game Mode", or anything along those lines. That might be capping it to 30Hz.

I would check your TV settings, specifically look in Picture and Setup/Channels menus. From there turn off anything to do with motion or gaming modes.

For me if my display setting on the mi box wasn't set to 4k/60 Netflix didn't show 4k content
