I've tried Kodi v17, Plex, and SPMC with a variety of settings and I can't seem to get DTSHD to passthrough to my Denon AVR. The only time it ever works is with a clean install and Kodi on the first run, but if I leave and restart the app, it won't work and I get silence. If this is working for anyone, can someone share their settings?
I can get DTS passthrough by setting the number of channels within system options in Kodi to 5.1 and also enabling the passthrough option in Kodi's settings.
My Mi Box connects through HDMI to my TV which then connects to my receiver with an optical cable.
*ah, I see you said DTSHD.
The blu ray rip I tested might have been regular DTS.
Thank you for this post. I just got a Mi box and was wondering as well how to get DTS to passthrough. I also have my Mi Box 4K connected to my Samsung TV via HDMi and then with optical to my Marantz Amp.
However I have a 2 x B&W Floorstanders 1 x B&W centre and 1 x B&W sub.
I assume setting Kodi for 5.1 would still be the best would make sense for my setup. What do you guys think?
What is passthrough exactly? Always see it mentioned.

Kodi 17 builds after RC4 should support all Formats, this includes DTS HD MA, DTS:X and Atmos
DTS HD contains a DTS track, so at least that should work. DTS HD will most likely not until the update to N (in theory IEC passthrough should work for the HD-Formats and Nougat brings that to the table )
